a beautiful sound

Today, on their way home from swimming, LB & Seala found a lovely & amazing musical instrument!  A kind neighbor had put it out front with a sign that said, “free to a good home,”  and so when LB & Seala shyly went to ask him if it was indeed available, & assured him they would take very good care of it, he gave it to them!

I am not exactly sure what the name of  this beautiful stringed instrument is…but it reminds me that one of the most amazing things about life here on Earth is the music!  The music here takes my breath away, time & time again.  We do have music in our home planet…and we have some sparkling musicians born every generation, who bring us lots of joy… but the sheer variety & breadth & beauty of music here on Earth is not to be matched anywhere in the whole, entire Universe, I would venture to guess…

LB & Seala have music in their blood from their Daddy, who is very musical…& as soon as they began to play, beautiful notes started flying all around us, bouncing off of the ground & back up into the sky!  It reminded me of this lovely song  known throughout the world…the Chan Chan song by the Buena Vista Social Club…

I’ve heard maybe hundreds of beautiful songs since coming to Earth…blues, hip hop, folk & pop songs from every continent (except Antartica, maybe?), opera & classical music, gospel & choir & reggae…rock & country…jazz & techno…I just love them all!  But the Chan Chan song is very special, I am not sure why…it has a little bit of a happy & sad sound as Seala puts it, & I always love to hear it!

What is a song that fills your heart?

Here are just a few other lovely songs:  When Your Mind’s Made Up   with Marketa Irglova & Glen Hansard,  Live Your Life by blues legend Keb Mo,  the late, lovely Eva Cassidy’s Wade in the Water …then from the movies, for my son LB, in addition to Chan Chan, he loves  Jackie Chan (a bit of violence in this one)…& for Seala, a song from  Bollywood,  with Shahrukh Kahn’s Chak de India…and…Águas de Março , the late Elis Regina & Tom Jobim singing a sweet song from Brazil…and last, but not least, the late & wonderful Miriam Makeba with Pata PataLove you,  music here on Earth!

p.s.    Here is just one more I love…Keb Mo with Bonnie Raitt  & Jackson Browne  Just Like You…it makes me feel at home here on Earth!
